To be forgiven is such sweetness that honey is tasteless in comparison with it. But yet there is one thing sweeter still, and that is to forgive. [C.H. Spurgeon]

One response to “FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness is a very difficult issue for child abuse victims. Abuse is so clearly directed against the innocent, is so heinous in nature, and has such grievous consequences that there are few parallels. Often, the predator has offended many times, over a long period.

Concern for forgiveness before the wounds of the victim — physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual — have been tended causes yet more harm. Victims pressured to forgive may give lip service, while actually feeling abandoned. Not only did God allow them to be abused; He is now siding w/ the predator. So goes the thinking.

Forgiveness does help heal the heart. That is not though readily apparent to victims. They must be allowed to proceed at their own pace, even rage at God, if need be. He understands their pain. After all, He died to atone for it.
