My Invitation This Summer To Israel

My Invitation This Summer To Israel

Sunday I received an invitation from a friend, an Israeli believer, to come to Israel for 6 weeks this summer. I will be involved with Yezreel Valley College in a summer course with the subject of the New Testament in a Jewish context. I will also be take part in a conference on contemporary relations between Christians and Jews. It should be quite interesting.

This college is located just south of Nazareth, and has over 5,000 students. It naturally will be forEnglish language students since I don’t speak Hebrew. My friend is a highly educated Bible scholar. He originally is from Uzbekistan , and attended Reformed Seminary in the U.S. He has earned 2 doctoral degrees in Ancient Studies, and Bible Interpretation. He also has done post doctoral studies at Leiden University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Hebrew University, Stellenbosch University, and the University of Pennsylvania. At present he is Scholar in Residence at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Dr. Eysenberg is co-founder of the Jerusalem Seminar for Christian-Jewish Relations. I am honored that he has invited me to be a part of this.

There are also speaking opportunities scheduled while there. It will be great to meet with Israeli believers. I am very pleased that there will be time available to travel on my own for a couple of days each week. Between now and then there is a lot of study and preparation to be done. It should be fun and educational. I have not been to Israel since 1980. I’m really looking forward to it.

It’s really amazing at how God works in our lives. Over 30 years ago I wanted to minister in Israel, but was not able to receive the proper authorization from the Israeli authorities to do so. We then decided, and went to Mexico City instead. Until Sunday when I received this invitation I was planning on ministering among Jewish people in New York City in the month of July. We just don’t know what God has in store for us from day to day. I had given up years ago of ever being able to ever minister in Israel. David in Psalm 37:23 said “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way”. Praise The Lord for the opportunities that He provides to serve Him. I am thankful that He still wants to use this Oklahoma country boy for His glory.

Congratulations Levi! This is really exciting! It is humbling to continually see how God is in the details of our lives. While this is proof of that in your life, I’m also sure that you being there will also be an answer to someone else’s prayer. I’ve never been to Israel, and would love to go, but am too scared. I think it’s wonderful that you get to go for so long. What a wonderful opportunity. Cheers!

This is beautiful news, Levi! God has opened the door at last, when you had least expected it. That is too wonderful to put to words. I will try to get caught up on reading your other posts. I work during the week and have little time until the weekend. Have a blessed weekend!
