The Safest Place !!!!!! ALL Need To Read This !!!!!

John_10-28

We believe in the eternal security of the saints. First, because they are Christ’s, and He will never lose the sheep which He has bought with His blood and received of His Father.

Next, because He gives them eternal life, and if it be eternal, well then, it is eternal, and there can be no end to hell, and heaven, and God. If spiritual life can die out, it is manifestly not eternal life, and that effectually shuts out the possibility of an end.

Observe, further, that the Lord expressly says, “They shall never perish.” As long as words have a meaning, this secures believers from perishing. The most obstinate unbelief cannot force this meaning out of this sentence.

Then, to make the matter complete, He declares that His people are in His hand, and He defies all their enemies to pluck them out of it. Surely it is a thing impossible even for the fiend of hell. We must be safe in the grasp of an almighty Savior. Be it ours to dismiss carnal fear as well as carnal confidence and rest peacefully in the hollow of the Redeemer’s hand.

Your post has great truth and encouragement. Please allow me to add a thought to John 10:28.”No man can pluck them out of my hand,” ….(my thought – “not even you!!!) A key truth is that when we have “been born again,” we can not be “unborn again.” Consider the birth of a child; it can’t be undone. Please keep up the good work, my brother in Christ.

The verse is taken out of context. Eternal life is only given to those sheep who “hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Jn 10:27. No such assurance is given to those believers who don’t hear and don’t follow.

I agree. But the shepherd keeps the sheep when they wander. They hear His voice and follow Him out when they wander off. Being saved doesn’t make us perfect people.

Thanks for your response Levi but I think this verse refers to obedience not wandering as one would have to read “wandering” into the passage whereas hearing and obeying equate to “obedience.” There are many scriptures that indicate that salvation is conditional in nature and warn of the consequences of disobedience. In my opinion, there are verses in Romans 8 that are clearer indicators that believers can indeed lose their salvation. For example Rom 8:12-13: “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation-but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For IF you live according to the flesh, YOU WILL DIE; but IF by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, YOU WILL LIVE.”

Paul’s warning is a somber one as these verses describe the potential death of born-again believers, referred to as the brethren in v. 12. If this death were not a real possibility, the warning would be nonsensical. We also know that this warning pertains to spiritual death – not physical death – because everyone dies physically irrespective of how we live our lives. Moreover, one must have spiritual life in order to be in danger of spiritual death. You cannot threaten a spiritually dead person with spiritual death. Such a person is already dead. Therefore, it must be concluded that these are regenerate brethren who are being warned of dying. Also note that this verse is conditional – not unconditional – as indicated by the word “if.” IF believers walk according to the flesh = they will die. IF believers walk according to the Spirit = they will live.

Those who adhere to eternal security are fond of pointing out that there is no condemnation for those in Christ citing Rom 8:1. However in its proper context, v.1 is conditioned by the clause in v.4 which states: “who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Thus, “no condemnation” is only promised to those walk by the Spirit which is perfectly coherent with verses 12-13.

I understand your points and appreciate you sharing them. However, I believe the Bible does teach eternal security. My blog is not designed to be a debate forum, but I do appreciate you sharing yours. Lord bless you!!!
