How Lost Was My Condition ?????? ( A John Newton Poem )

27 Sep

How lost was my condition
Till Jesus made me whole!
There is but one physician
Can cure a sin-sick soul
Next door to death he found me,
And snatched me from the grave,
To tell all around me
His wond’rous pow’r to save.

The worst of all diseases
Is light compared with sin;
On ev’ry part it seizes,
But rages most within;
‘Tis palsy, plague, and fever,
And madness-all combined;
And none, but a believer,
The least relief can find.

From men, great skill professing,
I sought a cure to gain;
But this proved more distressing,
And added to my pain;
Some said that nothing ailed me,
Some gave me up for lost;
Thus ev’ry refuge failed me,
And all my hopes were crossed.

At length this great Physician,
How matchless is His grace!
Accepted my petition,
And undertook my case;
First, gave me sight to view him,
For sin my eyes had sealed-
Then bit me look unto Him;
I looked, and I was healed.

A dying, risen Jesus,
Seen by the eye of faith,
At once from danger frees us,
And saves the soul from death;
Come, then, to this Physician,
His help he’ll freely give,
He makes no hard condition-
To Jesus look and live!

      The Fathers love is endless. Fortunate for us. Our lost estate was one of death and no life. Praise God He had a plan to redeem His people.

    I am so, so, so very thankful for God’s great love, for Him rescuing me (and my children). Without Him, I’d surely be dead by now, or continuing to live in death and despair. Sometimes it literally makes me catch my breath, when I think about just how amazingly powerful His love for me is, and how amazing His redemption is. What a beautiful poem!

        Thank you Levi. 🙂 You have a beautiful day too. My boys have a soccer game this morning at our church; another blessing from Him.

            I know I got that, was just saying that at the end of the day it is Mr.Levi over there that has to find the material in this case Mr.Newton´s and hang it up, which my guess is that it also takes time. And John Newton is a damn good poet for sure.

              Newton is good, Charly. I post one of his every Saturday. Hope all is good in Spain. I’m fine flying home to Oklahoma from Oregon. Have a nice afternoon/evening.

        I’m sure you have done so with what you share, Levi. Looks as if you have several people who enjoy what you write. It’s very possible you may touch a number of hearts in a Godly fashion and not even know it!

            He has given you the gift to relate to others…they respond to you! And then through your God-given abilities, they may learn about God.

            That’s what His children do…good works, born of love and faith, for the glory and praise of our Lord!

            Thanks, Levi…
